Steve Lee Fight Back Ride - Charity Auction

Bright Chalet is proud to be part of the ride to raise funds to support Olympian Steve Lee in his recovery. Three-time Winter Olympian and World Cup winner, Steven Lee suffered a large and debilitating stroke on the 6th of September, 2020. It was 18 hours before Steve was found on the floor by his Nephew at his home in Falls Creek. The amount of time that had elapsed between the stroke occurring, then getting airlifted to Melbourne and receiving medical assistance meant that the news was not good.

Through extensive testing it revealed that the stroke was caused by carotid webbing that affects normal blood flow to the brain, accompanied by an irregular and periodic heartbeat. Something that he never knew was a ticking time bomb. Steve’s brain was very swollen, which is expected following a clot that was left unattended to for so long. The stroke was large and located on the right side of his brain, meaning the areas around the stroke are needing to take on what the lost brain tissue used to do.

Now months later, the reality of Steve’s condition has set in. The rehab team have confirmed that Steve will need 24/7 care for the rest of his life. Whilst we hold hope for recovery, we are planning for the harsh reality that Steve will need much more support than we could ever have imagined. Further from the extensive medical costs that will follow him through his life, he will need modified living arrangements, disability vehicles, ongoing occupational therapy and many more things that our beloved Steve most definitely never budgeted for. Steve currently requires physical assistance or supervision for all daily living activities and will require a lot of support through the rest of his healing journey.

The Steve Lee Fight Back Ride was planned by a friends, who are determined to help raise $100,000 to provide a specialised vehicle to allow him to gain some much needed mobility and independence. The ride is making its way from Federation Square in Melbourne to Mount McKay on Falls Creek. The 500km plus journey includes a pitstop in Bright on Thursday 11th March and a night at Bright Chalet for the riders and their support team. Donations can be made via the rides GoFundMe page.

This Bright stop will also feature a charity auction of Rossignol products with all proceeds going to Steve Lee’s Recovery. Rossignol is generously donating a range of 2021 skis and clothing including new, ex-demo, and samples unavailable anywhere else. All of these fantastic products will be available on the night, with no reserve. This is great opportunity to find yourself some new snow gear, and support a family who lives were changed forever.

As well as the amazing items on the list below, there will be sample gloves worth $150-200 per pair and over 20 ski jackets. All gloves and clothing will be at specially marked prices.

With free nibbles from 6.30pm, come and buy a drink with $1 from every drink sold being donated along with the proceeds of the auction.

The Auction will start at 7pm sharp, and we hope that the greater Alpine community can come together to support this great cause.
